Maybelline – The Rocket Volume Express VS The Falsies Black Drama mascara

Hey all,

im back this week to review my top two favorite mascaras. If you know me, you will know that im in love with Maybelline’s mascara and

Lets start with the mascara I absolutely love right now, the Rocket Volume Express mascara.

Image

When this mascara was released, all beauty blogs and youtube gurus were raving about it. However, i wasnt sure if i would like it as much, due to its thicker wand and i prefer the thinner wands, such as the Falsie’s.

Image

I went to boots and they had this mascara in waterproof or normal, so i bought the waterproof one.

My first impressions on it was that it was wetter than maybellines other mascaras, such as their Falsies. After one coat, it goes on really heavy and i feel that it doesn’t separate my lashes and clumps it together. However, i understand that this is how to achieve volume on your lashes. But i do wish it wasn’t so wet, cause i have to wait a while for it to dry, otherwise i will get speckles of mascara on my cheeks after blinking. However, after using it for a few weeks, it has become less watery and applies on more smoothly than before.  This mascara gives great length and volume. It stays on nicely throughout the day, without leaving you with “panda” eyes. With a great staying power like this mascara, when night comes, it is relatively harder to remove than the Falsies mascara.

The Falsie Black Drama mascara was one of my favourite mascara, before the Rocket Volume Express mascara was released.

Image

When i first used this mascara, it was rather wet as well and i was also not accustomed to the brush. However, there are instructions on how to best use this brush on the back of the mascara tube as well as on the back of the packaging. Once ive gotten the hang of it, and once it became less wet, I grew to love this mascara.

Image

It kept my lashes curled throughtout the day and gave me very black and dramatic eyelashes. However, i found that it sometimes smudged a little onto my cheeks. I also thought that it gave less volume compared to the Rocket Volume Express mascara. It was also relatively easier to remove at the end of the day, compared to the other mascara.

Would i repurchase these mascara?

Yes, being a loyal fan of Maybelline’s mascara, im always trying out all of their mascara and i really like these two mascaras as well. Will definitely buy these again, unless Maybelline launches another new mascara.

Hope you have found this review useful!

Bourjois Délice De Poudre Bronzing Powder

Hey all,

Firstly, i want to say my heart goes out to all those affected by the 2 explosions in Boston yesterday and the Earthquake in India and Iran. I will be keeping everyone affected in my mind.

This week i shall be reviewing Bourjois Délice de poundre bronzing powder. There was a lot of hype for this bronzer so I decided to try it out. I bought this bronzer at Superdrug for £6.99, which is an alright price.

2013-04-16 23.23.21

My favourite thing about this bronzing powder is the packaging. It comes in a little cute cardboard book-like packaging which has a magnetic close, making it thin and convenient for travelling. I have this bronzer in the ’52’ shade. However, one down side of this packaging is that most of it is in French, so I have no idea if i have the paler or darker one.

Image

Inside, there is a good amount of the bronzer. The bronzer is in the style of a chocolate bar and it smells just like chocolate.

The color is not orangey at all and it makes your face looks nice and goldeny brown as there are specks of glitter in it, but dont worry, if youre not a fan of glitter because it is not obvious once applied onto your face. I personally find that this bronzer is too dark for my skin during the winter, however in the summer it is just perfect.

2013-04-16 23.24.36

2013-04-16 23.25.19

The product is perfect for contouring and if you have darker skin, it might take quite a lot of building in order to actually see the product on my skin. Even though on somedays, i think this shade is a little too dark for my skin, it is perfect for contouring and gives me a nice healthy glow without being too obvious. It also blends perfectly with whatever blusher Im using.

Will i buy it again?

I really enjoy using this bronzer because it is one of the best drugstore bronzers I have bought, I might even go as far as to say it is better than some of the high end bronzers I have used in the past. I would recommend and buy again.

Hope you have found this review useful!

Have/do you use the this bronzer?? Is there any other good drug store bronzer to recommend to me?

Hope you have a good week and as usual, if you would like me to review a specific item, please feel free to comment below or tweet me at @itslacour.

Maybelline Fit me Concealer Review

Hey all,

A few days ago, i went on a drugstore hunt looking to replace the concealer i was using as it was running out. Lucky me, i went to Boots on the same day they had their big sale and most Maybelline products were on sale. As you may or may not know, Maybelline is one of my favourite drug store brand, so i bought a few items. One of the item is the Maybelline Fit me Concealer.

If you remember from a few posts back, when Maybelline first released their new Fit me foundation, I wrote a review on that. (You can check that out here) As i have already tried the Fit me foundation and liked it, i thought to myself, why not try the Concealer as well?

ImageSo this is what the packaging looks like. It is very similar the to Fit me foundation bottles. Simple and easy to caring around with.

ImageI got the concealer in shade 15, which is one of the lightest shades they had.

There was a good range of shades from dark to light, which i think will suit most peoples skin tones. There was even a guide on buying the right concealer right next to these products, which can be really helpful when youre not as good at picking out shades or just unsure of which shade will suite you.

ImageAs per normal concealers, it comes with a brush/applicator. The applicator scoops up a good amount of concealer. However sometimes it may be too much. I also find that with these applicators, they dont reach the bottom of the tube, so when there is little product left, its hard to scrape out the tiny bit thats left on the bottom. It annoys me when the brush doesnt reach the bottom and i have no other ways to get it out, and its a waste to throw it away while there is still some product left in the tube.

ImageImage

This concealer is very blendable and does not feel cakey or heavy. It has a light to medium coverage, so i tend to build it up more if i need it. However, sometimes i feel that this concealer is a little too watery for my liking. So to deal with that, i prime my face, then il let it sit on my under eye area for a few seconds before blending it out and applying foundation. I find that applying it this way helps with getting more coverage. It is a little time consuming though, but i just take that time to do other stuff, like reading other blogs or updating my tumblr.

Will i buy it again?

Yes, since im currently using the Fit me foundation, i think this concealer is a perfect match for it. I also like the range of shade they have in store and will definitely be buying some of their other shades for blending etc.

Hope you have found this review useful!

Have/do you use the Fit me concealer or foundation from Maybelline? What is your favourite concealer brand at the moment??

BodyShop All-In-One Blushes Review

Hey all,

I hope you guys had a great relaxing warm weekend, i certainly didnt as the weather in London has been freezing these past few days! Anyways, Im back again and this week i shall be reviewing my new fav of the week blushes, both of them are from Bodyshop.

I walked into Bodyshop a few weeks ago, saw this range of blushes and just couldnt walk out of the store without purchasing any.

I ended up buying 2 blushes, Macaroon and Flush respectively. Both blushes can be bought in store or online on Bodyshop’s website for £8.00.

Image

Image

Flush is a more mid-tone peachy pink shade which i think will suit both fair and dark skins. It also contains more shimmer compared to Macaroon, which is a more matte coral shade.

Both blushes are very pigmented, perhaps due to its Marula Oil content, giving the blushes great color pay-off.

The staying power is also pretty good, it stays on my cheeks throughout the day without any touch-up.  It is also unscented, but thats not really a big deal-breaker for me.

The blush is in a dome-like shape case which is light, making it easy to pop into your purse or makeup bag whenever traveling. Even though the pots are not that big, compared to other drugstore brands, it does last a relatively long time.

Heres a swatch of each blush..

Image

As you can see, the Flush comes up more stronger and bolder than the Macaroon. Flush would be good for a night out or a dinner party, however i personally think it might be too bold for a day wear on a pale skin. Currently, ive been using Macaroon more often than Flush as i feel that the coral matte shade is perfect for spring and give a subtle rosiness to the cheeks. When summer comes and i become tanner (hopefully), i will probably be using more of the Flush shade.

Both blushes are soft and smooth in texture as you can expect from Bodyshop, and the pigment is not as daunting as seen in the pan, both can be build up with more layers.

Will i buy it again?

I will probably try out their other shades, but i do love Bodyshop’s blushes and will recommend this to anyone who wants a good product at a reasonable price.

Hope you have found this review useful!

Have you used Bodyshop’s blusher?? if yes, what are your favourite shades?

Bodyshop Matte It Primer

Hey all!

This week, i will be talking about my new Primer that i bought a few weeks ago. As the title suggests, its the Bodyshop Matte It Primer.

Bodyshop suggests this primer for normal and oily skin. This Primer is said to create a smoother base for foundation and has been designed to reduce shine while making make-up last longer.

This primer can be bought at Bodyshop for £12.00.

Bodyshop Matte It Primer

This is what the little tube looks like. Its very simple and small enough to fit into my makeup bag. However, dont let the size of this tube fool you, as you only need a little of this product for your entire face, therefore this tube can last you for a few months (approximately. Differs on individual usage).

I use this every morning as part of my morning make up routine. I squeeze just a tiny amount of this product onto my finger tips and rub it onto my face. As mentioned above, a little of this product goes a long way, so make sure not to squeeze too much. After using the primer, i like to let it set on my face for a few minutes before proceeding with my makeup routine.

Primer

As you can see from the above image, there is only a tiny hole to squeeze the primer out of, this makes it easier to control how much product you squeeze out.  When applying it on your face, it makes your face feels almost velvety and smooth. Since your face is smoother, it makes it easier to apply your foundation. It also fills in any pores, which gives your face a more airbrush and flawless look.

I also found that the matte function in this primer helps prevents the oily T-Zone from being too shiny. Although, i am disappointed to report that after a few hours, you can start to see traces of my shiny skin. Also, i felt that if i applied this without applying moisturiser to my face, my skin would feel very dry.

This primer is also useful as it is  gentle enough to double as an eyeshadow primer.

Overall I have enjoyed using this product as i love the velvety smooth feel to my skin after applying and i love how easily i can apply my makeup after using it. However, i would love if Bodyshop launched a new primer (or improvement) where the matte finish lasted longer.

Will i repurchase it? Maybe but as mentioned above, if Bodyshop was to release a new and improved primer with longer matte powers, i would definitely buy it in a heart beat!

Hope you have found this review useful!

Do you guys use primers? if yes, what are your favourite brands?

EcoTools Brushes Review – Buffing Brush & Angled Eyeliner Brush

Hey dolls,

so ive been debating with myself about the best way to apply makeup. After careful consideration and research, a few weeks ago, i finally caved and bought a brand new set of make-up brushes.

What brand did I end up buying? Well, i was walking around the store wondering which brand would be the best, while taking into consideration of the quality and prices.

The one brand which caught my eye was EcoTools. (I purchased mine at Boots)

Image

One of the first things that drew me to this brand was the fact that EcoTools are all about being green and helping the environment. EcoTools is a member of 1% For The Planet, which is a group of businesses who support environmental initiatives. Not only does EcoTools  donate 1% of their annual revenue to environmental causes, their products are also 100% cruelty free, using natural elements to stay as green as possible. Their cosmetic brushes are made from sleek bamboo, recycled aluminium and synthetic taklon bristle.

If you know me, you would know that Im all about protecting the environment and I absolutely love companies that give back to the environment/society.

The packages that the brushes come in are simple and super convenient as they come in little resealable pouches, the back of the pouch has instructions on how to use the brush and they even have a “Green Tip” on the back of each.

I thought I would start my brush collection with my two most used brushes:

Buffing Brush

I bought this brush because I wanted a buffing brush to blend my concealer and foundation. One of the good things about this brush is that it blends out any harsh lines perfectly without blending it out too much and loosing the desired coverage, leaving the skin looking natural.  I find the bristles very soft and dense, which is perfect for distributing my foundation or bb cream evenly without any streaking. Size wise, i find that its just the right size thus allowing easy control and application.

Angled Eyeliner Brush

Before using this Eyeliner brush, i was using a Maybelline eyeliner brush. I find that with the Maybelline, it was difficult to draw thin lines as the brush was too thick. After switching to this bamboo angled eyeliner brush by EcoTools, i found that it is just perfect for applying eyeliner. As the bristles are extremely soft, it makes the process of applying eyeliner smoother. The bristles are also very define, allowing the user to have absolute control over the brush, thus better control over the thickness of the lines, and build up if necessary.

Ive washed both brushes several times and the bristles in both brushes have stayed in place, there was no dividing that you may get with other brushes and theres is no shedding at all! It always dries smoothly and quickly.

Overall, I LOVED my two brushes and will definitely be getting more of their brushes. Not only do they help with the environment, they also have nice packaging with very useful and beautiful brushes.

Hope you have found this review useful!

What make-up brushes do you guys use?

Maybelline NEW Fit Me Foundation

Hey darlings,

Sorry for the lack of posts, ive been busy with assignments and studying for tests. So im back with a new liquid foundation review. I was sent this foundation by Maybelline a few days ago and I’ve been looking forward to trying it as Maybelline has always been my favourite makeup brand. So i hope you find this review useful.

As mentioned above, the foundation reviewed in this post is :

  1. Maybelline Fit Me FoundationImage

The following are taken from Maybelline (2013) website about this foundation.

PRODUCT DETAILS

WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT

The secret of Fit Me Foundation? Some waxes and fillers can mask your skin colour, Fit Me Foundation has none. Its transluscent gel based formula merges seamlessly with your skin.
Fit Me Foundation, Concealer and Powder are made to fit together by shade numbers, so finding your shade couldn’t be easier. Looks natural, feels so light. SPF 18.
According to the website, this foundation is meant to unify the skin tone while hiding imperfections and giving you a natural, non-cakey look. So, does this foundation does what its advertised to do?
This foundation was really easy to apply and gives the skin a dewy, natural look. However, I personally think this foundation is a little too liquid, thus giving my face a not as matt as i like look.
The coverage for this foundation is medium, again this gives you a more natural look. However more coverage can be built up when applying more foundation to areas that you want more coverage. This foundation blends well into the skin and is very long wearing. It also has a great color range, so it will suite whatever skin color. At £7.99, this foundation is affordable and good for daily wear.
Would i buy this foundation again?  Maybe. I personally prefer a more matt finish foundation, however if you like a satiny finish this is the foundation for you.
I hope youve found this review useful :)
Have a good week and i shall be posting reviews every monday, so see you next monday!
Love, Nicole xx
